I simply pressed cancel and closed Cubase. The only issue I have experienced: When an app is using the ASIO hardware, I cannot plug/unplug headphones.
#ASIO FOR GENERIC USB DEVICE DRIVERS#
I got a few error messages regarding audio channel routing. The reason is probably that those generic ASIO drivers do not really connect to the hardware, they just create even one more layer in order to simulate an ASIO device which is actually running with a normal windows audio driver.

The only thing I can think of that I did before this problem began, was starting a cubase project without the sound card connected. To make sure the generic driver is installed again, re-plug your USB audio device to the USB port of your computer. Version 2.15 is the official version that supports Windows 11. Having to delete program preferences on every startup quickly gets tedious very quckly. Download the ASIO driver Visit the official website of ASIO4all. However if I simply close Cubase, and start it again, without unplugging anything, only “Generic Low Latency ASIO driver” is available. After that everything works as expected, and the correct device shows up in the Studio->Audio connections menu. If I hold CTRL+ALT+Shift on startup, and Delete program preferences, it detects the Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO, and I can choose it as my audio hardware. There are no other device drivers available from the drop-down menu.

In the studio->Audio connections menu I see it has selected “Generic Low Latency ASIO driver”. All audio is played from my computer speakers, rather than the headphones connected to the sound card, and I cannot record any audio. I am currently using WIndows 10, Cubase LE AI Elements 9.5.30, and the latest sound card drivers from Steinberg.Īt first everything worked fine, but now whenever I start cubase it doesn’t find the sound card. I recently bought a Steinberg UR22 mkII, and installed the Cubase AI bundle that came with it. I did a forums search, but didn’t find anything that helped me. Also on the list in Roon is “ASIO for USB” but that fails any time I try to enable that interface.I’m a novice when it comes to both cubase and sound cards, so please bear with me. Is there a better driver to use that’s more reliable? The only one available is “ASIO for Generic USB Device” at the moment. On further investigation, I noticed something else strange - the USB input seems to disappear or simply fail to reconnect. To make things more bizarre, the XMC-1 display reports 24 bits PCM flowing in on that input! This driver supports Windows XP, Vista, 10, 8, and 7, both 32- and 64-bit versions. But for some reason, Roon reports that the USB input is only capable of 16 bits precision. The ASIO driver for the USBPre 2 allows for low-latency operation and sample rates up to 192 KHz on Windows computers. I’m connected using a short USB cable, without any hubs or other equipment along the way, from the NUC directly to the USB input on the XMC-1. After the PC itself, the audio interface is the second most critical component for a rock-solid DAW. If you use an ASIO driver for your USB speakers, you have no driver for input, so no audio recording. Roon is installed on the NUC and is running perfectly. Another potential problem with ASIO is that an app cannot have more than one driver open.
#ASIO FOR GENERIC USB DEVICE WINDOWS 10#
I’m running Windows 10 64bit on a NUC in my living room. I have encountered some odd behavior when playing back through my XMC-1.

But it has been a most excellent experience so far. I am one of those folks who has meticulously maintained their metadata so I have a little ways to go getting my music to look “right” in Roon.

I am new to Roon - I started my trial today.
